  • Christopher Gaylord, DVM, MA

    Practice Owner
    Dr. Gaylord earned his DVM at Cornell University's College of Veterinary Medicine. Before opening North Slope Veterinary, he worked as an Associate Veterinarian at Jersey City Animal Hospital and at the Humane Society of New York in Manhattan.

    Prior to veterinary school, Dr. Gaylord received his Bachelor of Science in Environmental Studies from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and then went on to Hunter College where he earned his Masters of Arts in Anthropology with a focus on primate behavior. He conducted field research with primates in Belize, Nicaragua, and Vietnam, and is passionate about wildlife conservation.

    Dr. Gaylord lives in the neighborhood with his wife and son and their dog, Turbo. He is thrilled to be the owner of North Slope Veterinary and is committed to providing excellent veterinary care to Brooklyn pets and their families.

  • Dr. Hillary Lazarus

    Dr. Hilary Lazarus, DVM


    Dr. Lazarus completed her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at Midwestern University in Arizona. Before joining the North Slope team, she completed a rotating small animal internship, gaining emergency and specialty experience at VERG in Brooklyn. She likes the variety of small animal primary care, and has special interests in surgery, wound management, internal medicine and neurology.

    Before becoming a vet, Dr. Lazarus received her Bachelors in Biology from the University of Southern California. After graduating, she tutored for No Child Left Behind and taught SAT prep classes while learning the ins and outs of small animal veterinary practice in LA. She continued to work as a veterinary technician at integrative and emergency practices throughout vet school, and volunteered for numerous trap-neuter-release programs, as well as on Native American reservations in Southern Arizona.

    Originally from Tucson, AZ, Dr. Lazarus now lives in the neighborhood with her longhaired dachshund Dash and her greyhound Jolene. Outside of work, she enjoys camping and hiking, and is always doing something creative.

  • Leanna Shuttleworth, DVM

    Associate Veterinarian

    Dr. Shuttleworth received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from St. George's University in 2017, having undertaken her clinical training at Cornell University's Hospital for Animals. Prior to this she completed her Pre-Veterinary Medicine certificate at the University of Nottingham in the UK. Her work since graduating has been in small animal general practice and she particularly enjoys preventative care, dentistry and surgery. Originally from the UK, she now lives in Brooklyn with her partner and mischievous little cat, Loki.

    Outside of work, Dr. Shuttleworth is completing a Masters in Public Health from the University of Minnesota, and enjoys mountaineering, triathlons and traveling.

    Maria's is the smiling face you see at our reception desk and the friendly voice answering the phone when you call.  She enjoys reading, cooking, arts and crafts, and cheering on her son Tyler at his karate tournaments and basketball games.
  • Ofelia

    Veterinary Technician
    Ofelia has 9 years of experience working as a veterinary technician and is now our Office Manager. Her concern for your pet and genuine kindness can be felt immediately. In her free time, she hangs out with her Red Nose Pit Bull "Buddah" and loves photography, music, watching documentaries, and traveling to the Caribbean islands.

    Pet Groomer
    Debi graduated as a Certified Groomer from the New York School of Dog Grooming in 1980 and has had over 30 years experience grooming all breeds of cats and dogs. Debi takes pride in doing high quality work and can always be counted on to go the extra mile. Debi lives in Brooklyn with her two rescue dogs, Noel, a Miniature Pincher and Sparkle, a Chihuahua. Debi is available for grooming services on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday by appointment.
